Abington area sports calendar for the week of July 13, 2016

Abington Youth Soccer League registration, currently underway for the fall season. Boys and girls born on or between 8/1/97 and 7/31/12 are eligible to play. Players born 8/1/97 to 7/31/98 must still be in high school this fall to register. There is no residency requirement. Online registration at abingtonyouthsoccer.org requires payment by credit card or e-check. Paper registration is available by printing up a form online and mailing it. Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club Sporting Clays course, open Wednesdays 9 a.m. to dusk through September. Member cost: $25 for 100 birds and $13 for 50 birds. 3rd Annual Lackawanna County Open Tennis Tournament, July 14-17, at the Scranton Tennis Club, 1029 Morgan Hwy., Clarks Summit. The event will feature men’s and women’s singles and doubles in A and B division. Singles cost: $10 for club members, $15 for non-members. Doubles cost: $10 per team for members and $15 team per team for non-members. The club will provide balls, awards for finalists, and a luncheon for the players on July 16. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. July 11. Entry blanks are available at the club and on www.scrantontennisclub.com. The entry fee must be paid before the entry deadline. Players may drop their entry form and check in the mailbox on the porch at the club or mail it to Scranton Tennis Club, P.O. Box 678, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Checks should be made out to Scranton Tennis Club.

Louis A. Koch Memorial 5K Run/Walk, July 23 at the Olive Street trailhead of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. Registration: 7-8:15 a.m. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Cost: $25 per person. The race will raise funds for a memorial scholarship that will be given for underprivileged youths to attend the Keystone/Trout Unlimited Teens Conservation Camp at Keystone College and the Louis A. Koch Annual Memorial scholarship at Holy Cross High School.

Lackawanna County 3 on 3 basketball tournament, July 29-31 on the 100-200 blocks of Wyoming Avenue, Scranton. Players of all skill levels and ages are encouraged and invited to participate. Registration deadline: July 25. Entry fees per team: $90 for Youth, $110 for adults, based on a five-man roster. T-shirts will be given to all participating players, and all teams are guaranteed a three-game minimum. Sandlot Baseball Academy Swing Into Fall Camp, Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 2, 6, 9, 13, 16 and 20 at the academy, 700 N. South Rd., Scranton. Second Annual Jack Mehaffey Memorial Shootout, 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at Rock Mountain Sporting Clays, 674 Mitchell Rd., Meshoppen Township. Cost: $55 for adults, $35 for students. Lunch will be provided after the 100 bird shoot. The top five scorers will shoot-off for the Jack Mehaffey Memorial Trophy. Pre-registration and $20 deposit required by Aug. 10.
