The Dime Bank received approval for a $15,000.00 tax credit through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program in order to contribute to the United Way. The funds were split between two different programs. The Dime Bank contributed $5,000 to the Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Program being administered through United Way of Lackawanna & Wayne Counties. The scholarship program is available to all children three to five years of age who attend a pre-approved program in the Commonwealth of PA. Eligible families may receive up to 75 percent of tuition reimbursement utilizing this program. The second program, Environmental Education, received $10,000. This module will enhance the science curriculum of local public school children from first through eighth grade by providing a four -to- eight week course focusing on environmental and ecological issues. This program works to connect the student to the land by providing them the tools they need to make informed actions related to sustaining natural and cultural resources.
Jill George, Vice President of Human Resources at The Dime Bank and a member of the United Way Wayne County Funds Distribution Committee said, The United Way is an organization that addresses the needs of many different organizations in our communities that would otherwise fall short on funding. It is an important resource for so many people. To apply for scholarship funds or to learn more about United Way programs, contact them at 570.343.1267.
