Holy Cross girls finish third in state golf

Selena Cerra shot a 79 to tie for the second-best score among the players from the four teams in the Class AA girls tournament.
Emily Okrepkie added a 92, Rachel Mackrell a 95 and Gianna Chase a 114 to give Holy Cross a team score of 380.
Central Valley won the title with a 342.
Mercyhurst Prep shot 368 for second place. Villa Maria was fourth with a 419.
Scranton Prep was fourth out of six teams in Class AAA boys and last among the five teams that qualified for the state tournament in Class AAA girls.
Chris Cerminaro, a sophomore who was fifth in the Class AAA boys individual event, led Scranton Prep with a 76. Moosic residents Nick Johnson and Evan Joyce added a 77 and 80.
David Pompey shot 82 to complete Scranton Prep's team score of 315.
Manheim Township won the title with a 299, followed by Council Rock North with 301 and St. Joseph's Prep with 312. Pittsburgh Central Catholic and Meadville came in behind Scranton Prep with 317 and 337.
Danielle Dalessandro, another Moosic resident, shot 85 but was the only Scranton Prep girl to finish better than 108.
Radnor won the title with 325, topping Penn Trafford (341), Central Dauphin (353), State College (391) and Scranton Prep (413).
Holy Redeemer, the only Wyoming Valley Conference team to represent District 2, tied Wyomissing at 321, but lost a one-hole playoff for the Class AA boys title.
Mariano Medico of Holy Redeemer had the day's best score with a 3-under-par, 68.
