Pennstar Bank recently presented the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties with a check for $5,000 in support of the United Wayâ??s Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship program. This financial commitment is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Developmentâ??s Educational Improvement Tax Credit program which allows eligible businesses to receive tax credits that are then directed to approved Pre-K Scholarship Organizations such as the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties.
These dollars will provide income eligible families and children with tuition assistance at numerous preschools in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties. Last year, more than 170 children attended quality preschool programs as a result.
