WAVERLY TWP. — On Saturday, April 30, the Waverly Community House (the Comm) will premiere its first Greenhouse and Kitchen Show, featuring innovative ways to enhance the home, inside and out. The show is an updated, streamlined and reimagined version of the House and Garden Show, held each year at the Comm.

The event aims to bridge the gap between farmers and producers of environmentally-friendly products and their consumers. Proceeds from the Saturday show and Friday evening launch party benefit the new CommKids Interactive Learning Center, which will open at the Comm in the fall. One of the goals of the new center is to educate children on where their food comes from and how to make smart decisions on which foods to purchase.

The show kicks off with a launch party, catered by Terra Preta, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 29. Susquehanna Brewing Company will bring craft beer, and wine from local wineries will also be served. Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased in the Comm office in advance or at the door on Friday evening.

The Greenhouse and Kitchen Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and features many vendors new to the show, including Elena Colombo, who is known for her custom fire features, and Mark Chuck, 2006 recipient of the F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship, whose love of fish is artfully represented in his unique functional ceramic ware.

Vendors include, but are not limited to, Greystone Gardens, Gail’s Cupboard, Mount Pleasant Herbary, Demca Demonstration, La Cigale, Garden Life Outfitters, Inc., Beichler’s Greenhouse, Creekside Gardens, Arendt’s Outdoor Landscaping Services, Elena Colombo’s Fire Features, Beyond Organics Gardening, Jared Jaffe, The Baklava Lady, Mark Chuck Ceramics, Waterpure Inc., Canned Classics, Fuller’s Overlook Farm, Young Living and Rowland’s.

This year, instead of selling admission tickets, the Comm is suggesting a donation of $5 per person. Light snacks and beverages will be served in the Canteen. All proceeds from the Show benefit the new CommKids Interactive Learning Center.
