CLARKS SUMMIT — The Abington Heights junior high softball team split a doubleheader with West Scranton on April 30.

The Lady Comets won the first game, 8-7. Mara Hamm sparked the offense with two triples and Maria Tully chipped in with two doubles. Morghan Stiles finished with two hits and Katya Williams picked up the win on the mound by striking out seven batters.

The Lady Comets suffered their second defeat of the season, 5-0, at the hands of the Lady Invaders in the second game. Hamm had two hits, including a double and Morghan Stiles singled. Williams took the loss tossing a five-hitter.

The Lady Comets downed Valley View, 12-4, on Saturday, May 2. Nina Kozar doubled and hit a home run to spark the offense. Catherine Anne Kupinski doubled and had three hits. Kaya Williams had two hits, Hamm doubled and Stiles scored twice. Katya Williams picked up the win by allowing seven hits and striking out eight batters.

Abington Heights held off Dunmore, 9-7, on May 4. Katya Williams picked up the win, striking out 15 of the first 16 Dunmore batters. Arla Davis, Grace Gonzales and Jane Mecca had run-scoring hits. Kozar singled to knock in two runs.

The Lady Comets outslugged Dunmore, 12-9, on May 6. Abington Heights finished with 11 hits. Ashley Chrysler had two hits, including a double. Davis chipped in with two hits. Kupinski had two hits, including a double. Hamm and Kozar hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning. Tully picked up the win and struck out 11 batters.
