“We are thrilled that our community is enthusiastic about all of the classes, movies and events that the Dietrich offers,” said Erica Rogler, Dietrich Theater executive director. “That is what I will remember the year 2022 for. People’s enjoyment of programs.”

Rogler went on to say that our community enthusiastically showed up for last week’s free showings of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a tradition since 2001. “Over 500 of our friends came to multiple showings, some for the first time,” smiles Erica. “It was certainly a reassuring end to the year, and we are so grateful to Ace-Robbins for making it possible.” A beautiful end to 2022!

So now is the time for new resolutions for 2023. Have you made your resolutions? The Dietrich Theater offerings always help me fulfill mine. My resolutions for 2023 are two-fold. I resolve to keep learning and I resolve to keep exercising. How can the Dietrich help me?

Here is one way I can keep learning. Wyoming County Reads book and movie discussions will introduce me to a new author, Kazuo Ishiguru. Two books, Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go, will be the subjects of discussions at the Tunkhannock Public Library, discussions led by our resident scholar, Bill Chapla. I always learn so much from Bill and those who come to the discussions, different points of view and different cultures. And I can start my reading right now. This is just one example of how the Dietrich can help me with my first resolution.

For my second resolution to keep exercising, the Dietrich has so many offerings: Simply Yoga, Chair Yoga, Mat and Chair Integrated Kundalini Yoga, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi Easy. I have taken classes with all of the teachers and can say that they are all extremely talented and dedicated to helping us all keep exercising according to our own abilities. In addition they all teach mindfulness, the ability to focus on the present moment, a skill we all need so badly. I am a regular student of yoga and Qi Gong, because of Dietrich classes.

How do these classes help me? I am a regular walker because my dog Sadie reminds me every day that it is time. Walking is a wonderful way to exercise and get outside in the fresh air. Combined with one of the practices described above has increased my flexibility, range of motion, balance, mindfulness, and so much more. Stretching and moving in new ways is so powerful for my body and my mind. All of the teachers also create a caring community of students, a big plus.

That’s enough about my resolutions. How about yours? First of all, are you on our mailing list? Did you sign up for our email newsletter? Call Mary at 570-836-1022 x3 or go to www.dietrichtheater.com for information. Of course, you can soon pick up a new brochure at the Dietrich.

Erica reminds me that Quilters Meetup resumes on Wednesdays, Jan. 11, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is a way to meet with other quilters, work on the project of your choice, and visit and learn from others. Recently this group decided to have a holiday party – just to celebrate the season and their friendship. They always welcome new members. Just show up on Wednesdays! Maybe your new year’s resolution is to meet new friends or like me – to learn new things.

At the Dietrich Theater Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors, Erica reported the highlights for the Wyoming County Cultural Center at the Dietrich Theater this last fiscal year and here they are: over 53,866 children and adults attended movies, classes and events. Amazing, isn’t it? What will the number be in 2023? We hope it will include you.
