What will be the next Christmas displays

adorning the Dietrich Theater’s galleries?

Supplies arrive and disappear into the studios.

UPS deliveries, FedEx deliveries, many trips are made

to find just the right objects to create the scenes.

What will be the themes of the scenes this year?

No one knows except the artists.

I did get a peek into one of the studios and saw tables and shelves laden with

paint and brushes, glue and glue guns, glitter, stars, miniature lights, Styrofoam,

shimmering fabric, netting, tiny figurines

What story will be told? Where will the scene be set? Who will be the characters?

What music will we hear? What will spin? What will swing?

The door is closed, but the artists are, imagining, collecting, drawing,

building, painting, assembling. The exhibits will be unveiled.

We will hear the music, see the shimmer and the silent movement.

The stories will come alive. We will see awe in the faces of young and old.

And we will hear hushed comments.

“Ah” “It’s so beautiful!” “Can I push the button to hear the music?”

“Can I push the button to see it spin?” “I just want to look at it a little longer.”

And the artists can stand back and look and listen

and they know that all of the collecting, imagining, drawing, building, painting, and assembling,

create magic for all who will let it into their minds and hearts.
