On Tuesday, April 12, the Dietrich Theater’s Golden Days of Radio Players kicked off rehearsals for their upcoming spring performance at the historic theater. Not only was the group of community actors in a festive mood because it was the start of their new season, but they were celebrating one of their own who had just turned one hundred years old the day before – B.B. Colodny.

B.B. Colodny joined the Dietrich Theater Golden Days of Radio Players in 2018, because she thought it would be fun. She has a strong background in performing arts, sharing “I’ve been involved with theater and dance for years. I taught classical ballet and choreographed several musical shows. I’ve even acted in and directed theatrical shows.”

B.B.’s love of radio shows started in its heyday in the 1930’s and 1940’s. According to B.B., “I remember liking the Sky King radio series. I think I was disappointed when it came out on tv because in my mind I imagined the mountains to be much bigger. I also remember liking Lost Horizons radio series.”

Since 2018, B.B. has performed a variety of roles in Dietrich Theater Radio Players performances. When asked what her favorite role has been, B.B. relates with a laugh, “I don’t have one. I’ve enjoyed all the roles and having a chance to perform without having to memorize scripts.”

B.B. also reveals that she hopes audience members will experience the talent of the performers and a taste of old time radio at their upcoming show, which will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Dietrich Theater.

The Dietrich Theater Golden Days of Radio Players has been a free program presented by the Dietrich Theater since 2003 which is currently directed by Esther Harmatz. For more information about the Golden Days of Radio and their upcoming performance, please call the theater at 570-836-1022 x3.
