SCRANTON — The AFA (Artists For Art) Gallery, 514 Lackawanna Ave., has several exhibits and events planned for the month of August:

Evolution, featuring Mitchell Lewis, Jules Perlmutter and Jackie Thomas

Aug. 3-25

Mitchell Lewis, Jules Perlmetter and Jackie Thomas will display their works collectively titled “Evolution” in AFA’s first floor gallery.

Lewis’s life-long love of art and the major events that he has experienced are evident in the hieroglyphic quality of his paintings.

Perlmutter’s paintings of faces, inspired by masks, self-exploration and collage, are meant to connect the viewer to their inner world and to promote dialogue about people’s own masks.

Thomas works most often with fabrics, yarns, fleece and beads to create wall hangings, sculptural forms, dolls, fetishes, vessels and jewelry.

An opening reception will be held during from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 4 during First Friday.

Mark Boyer Dryfoos and Rhonda Morrison

Aug. 3-25

AFA’s Second Floor Gallery will exhibit two dimensional work by Mark Boyer Dryfoos and Rhonda Morrison.

Boyer Dryfoos’s paintings take the viewer along on a journey to seek out those places that are often not seen.

Morrison, working primarily in mixed media, uses found items, stories of the human condition, and the sonic textures from music to express her ponderings of the interconnectedness of life.

An opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. June 3 during First Friday.

A hands-on workshop, “Feltmaking with Jackie Thomas,” will be conducted from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.
