When it’s winter and you live in Northeast Pennsylvania, it’s comforting to grab a good book or movie, curl up in a comfy spot with a warm drink and relax. Cold, early, dark nights give people more down time than usual.

The Dalton Community Library has just about everything one needs to relax at home. In one library visit, a patron can pick from hundreds of DVDs; thousands of books, which include best sellers or traditional classics; or the most recent magazines. What a great way to take advantage of free entertainment to bring to the warmth and comfort of your own home.

This month, our library and all Lackawanna County Libraries are collecting art supplies for the new NEPA Youth Shelter and After School Teen Drop-In Center. The shelter is located at 541 Wyoming Ave., Scranton and serves teens ages 14 and up. To make a donation, bring art supplies to the Dalton Community Library or any Lackawanna County Library. Every donation is greatly appreciated.

Any children in sixth grade or younger are welcome to participate in the county-wide Winter Challenge themed, “Catch a Dragon by Its Tale.” Our library has an easy challenge checklist for children.

Some examples of the challenges are: “draw a castle,” “choose water instead of juice or soda,” “read an extra 15 minutes,” and “help carry in groceries.” Small prizes are awarded when completing 15, 20, and all 25 challenges on the checklist. Of course, we’re always encouraging children to read, but we also encourage them to be active, help others and feel confident when doing these acts.

Email JFamiletti@albright.org or call the library at 570-563-2014 with questions.

The Winter Challenge will go on through the end of February.

Adult and children’s programs will be conducted during February. Kid’s Crew, Story Time, Mahjong, Bridge and Saturday Spotlight will follow their regular schedules, which can be found online at lclshome.org/dalton.

If bad weather becomes an issue, call the library to check on cancelled programs.

We hope everyone has a great month. Stop in for a program or to gather your comforting needs this February!
