JP Williams Band to perform free concert at Dietrich Theater June 24

TUNKHANNOCK — The JP Williams Blues Band will perform at 3 p.m. June 24 at the Dietrich Theater. Sponsored by Tunkhannock Rotary Club, the concert is free with donations suggested.

The special guest vocalist will be Ekat Pereyra. Included are songs from JP Williams’ new CD “Stolen Cadillac.” The CD will be for sale at the concert. Also included will be original songs and those of Chicago and Delta Blues artists. Tickets will be available at the door or may be reserved by calling 570-996-1500.

Although the music JP Williams plays is primarily based on the works of famous blues artists such as Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Willie Dixon, and more contemporary musicians such as Paul Butterfield and John Hammond Jr., he is not interested in mimicking or duplicating their performances, but rather in creating his own interpretations of the roots of Chicago, Delta, and Country Blues. Combining what came before him with his own performance and songwriting yields the unique experience that is JP Williams Blues.

For many blues fans, JP Williams is the ultimate blues artist, with his slide playing on his resonator guitar or his perfect blues riffs on his acoustic, and a singing voice and style that brings Memphis, Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans to NEPA. Blues music has such a rich tradition that JP Williams honors in his songs. He also believes it is a living art form that can benefit from new interpretations and new diversity.

The JP Williams Band will perform a free concert at the Dietrich Theater June 24.
