The Board of Trustees of the Waverly Community House is pleased to announce that the F. Lammot Belin Arts Foundation Scholarship committee has awarded the 2021 Scholarship to percussionist and composer Tyler Dempsey. Tyler is a professional drummer and educator from Clarks Summit, PA. He has performed, toured, and recorded with many of the region’s finest musicians including NEA Jazz Masters Dave Liebman and Bob Dorough. Tyler is the house drummer at the historic Deer Head Inn Jam Session, As an educator, he holds the position of Director of Percussion Instruction at Keystone College. Tyler also works with students across the country through online workshops and lessons. He’s a Vic Firth, Zildjian, Prologix Percussion, Mapex/Majestic Artist.

The scholarship funds will be used to purchase the high quality equipment necessary for him to produce professional level recordings in order to promote his musical talents worldwide and enable him to further his love of teaching music from his home studio in Clarks Summit. Said Tyler of receiving the $10,000.00 scholarship: “When it comes to taking my career to the next level, your support is truly life changing.”

A secondary “Emerging Artist” award in the amount of $1,000.00 was presented to Jeff Kuratnick from Ransom Township PA for “Hiraeth Never Fades,” an ongoing series of sculptures and installations focused on his experience as a product of the closed domestic adoption industry in the United States.

The F. Lammot Belin Arts Foundation Scholarship was founded in 1964 by Captain Peter Belin in memory of his father to provide financial assistance to artists of outstanding aptitude and promise in the fine arts. The scholarship is intended to serve as a turning point for the recipient scholar in his or her development as a professional artist.

The deadline to submit an application for the 2022 Arts Scholarship is Monday, December 13, 2021. Applications that are post-marked by December 13th will be accepted.
