The Waverly Community House is pleased to announce that Sue and Lou Houck have accepted its Board of Trustees’ invitation to serve as Sustaining Fund Co-Chairs for this year’s campaign. When asked why they agreed to lead the campaign, they replied: “The Waverly Community House is an integral part of our community and has been an important part of our lives for over 50 years.”
Growing up on the corner of Clinton and Beech Streets, Lou has been a member of The Comm family since childhood. Sue is from Lewes, Delaware. The Houck’s have been married almost 30 years and have lived in many places. In 2010, they moved their family back to the area and purchased a house on Beech Street behind The Comm. Says Sue: “We feel so lucky to be back in Waverly. Our kids are the third generation of Houck’s that have enjoyed all The Comm has to offer. Having the Comm as a front yard makes that an easy thing to do!”
Lou has been on the Waverly Community House board for 11 years, Treasurer for 9 years and served as Board President from May, 2015 to May, 2016. “Our house has been on the Holiday Hour Tour and we’ve volunteered at numerous Comm functions,” says Sue of their involvement with The Comm in recent years. The couple enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends skiing, diving, beaching it and sailing.
The Houck’s hope “to connect with past and future Comm supporters and encourage them to donate to the sustaining fund because of all the Comm has to offer them and the community.” To learn more about the Waverly Community House or to support The Comm with a donation to the Sustaining Fund, visit waverlycomm.org.
