CLARKS GREEN — Councilman Dave Rinaldi said at September’s council meeting that the borough will apply for a Local Share Account (gaming) grant in the amount of $115,000 to purchase a dump truck for the Department of Public Works once details of the purchase can be finalized.
Council approved seeking the grant at the meeting.
Rinaldi said that he is waiting for a proposal from Gibbons Ford.
“We have seen the truck itself advertised for approximately $66,000,” he said. “We got an estimate from (Powells Sales and Service) for the outfitting of it, so it will be identical to the last one we purchased.”
Rinaldi mentioned that the cost would be $46,783.48. He said that the deadline will be the end of September.
“Once we get that proposal from Gibbons, we’ll have all the documents to make the submission,” he said.
Rinaldi said that he is unsure whether the grant will fund the whole cost or if there will be a difference.
In his financial report, Rinaldi read the following current asset funds as of the end of August: general fund checking, $679,094.08; capital fund, $126,472.73; sewer fund checking; $431,529.45; state fund, $168,485.98.
In other business, Council voted to provide the Clarks Green Shade Tree Commission with an additional $500 for the purchase of shade trees for planting them this fall.
In his mayor’s report, Joe Barrasse said that Clarks Summit police chief Chris Yarns told him about a grant for laptops and he is looking to hire a full-time police officer.
In his public works report, Rinaldi said that Council awarded the contract to Wayco Inc. to pave Hall Avenue and Tedrick Street in the amount of $111,589.94. He said that the change order reduced the cost by $32,512. He said that the total cost is now $79,089.82.
“Very nice deduction,” he said.
Also, Rinaldi mentioned that he will focus on the 2023 budget during the work session on Oct. 5.
