“I retired from teaching after 25-plus years in 2018 and started my new adventure as an artist soon thereafter,” said Lydia Golas, an artist and vendor of Birdsong Birdhouses.” “I was invited last year for the first time, to participate in the Waverly Artisans Market Place, and I am looking forward to coming back this year. I love working in my shop to creating all sorts of different items. Being a vendor allows me to share my art which has been very well received.”

Golas initially only built birdhouses, each piece being hand crafted from reclaimed late 18th to 19th century American barn wood. She branched out in 2019 turning to new, different and exceptional creations from the same materials. The birdhouses all are built to house nesting wild birds with attention given to factors such as hold and cavity size specifications and are easy clean out with ventilation, drainage and weather proofing.

John Saint’s mother started selling unique Santa Claus items at the Waverly Artisans Marketplace in the late 1980s. John Saint, who lives in Pittsburgh, took over in 1999.

“All the Santa’s are made with antique and vintage fabric and fur coats,” Saint said. “People who buy them at the marketplace treasure them. The Santas are whimsical and different. All of the vendors are top notch and take their time to create their craft. The show is amazing.”

His Santa’s can be viewed at santasnicks.com.

Event goers can come inside to the Canteen at the Comm where water, hot coffee and baked goods will be available for purchase.

Constantino’s will offer lunch.

Choices for lunch are the following: Roasted pumpkin bisque with dinner roll, spring mix salad with white Balsamic Vinaigrette, glazed walnuts, crasisins and crumbled goat cheese, chicken salad croissant sandwiches, roast beef club panini’s with sharp cheddar cheese and Horssey mayo and fresh mozzarella and tomato pepper bruschetta wrap with fresh spinach and balsamic glaze.

Sponsors include R. J. Walker Co., Shea Demolition and Waverly General Store.

“The Artisans Market Place is a festive and popular kick off to the holiday shopping season. It is also a great and important fundraiser for the Comm. Proceeds are used to directly benefit the many programs offered to the community on an annual basis. It is our hope to break our ticket-sale records this year so I hope everyone takes the time to visit the show and patronize the wonderful vendors who will be there that weekend,” said Maria Wilson, executive director of Waverly Community House.

Tickets are $10 for general admission for both days of the Marketplace, $8 for those 60 and over and $5 for those 12 and under.
