CLARKS SUMMIT — Temperatures are dropping and, for many, it’s a great opportunity to spend some time indoors enjoying artwork and culture, even taking a class or two.

The Gathering Place on South State Street reflects the autumn season — inside and outside — and is decorated in oranges and golds this month, a great backdrop for stopping by to see what’s new.

In October, the Historical Society of the Abingtons met for the first time at The Gathering Place and will now be meeting there every three months, with the next meeting to be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23. The free meetings are open to everyone.

The Society began with six people and first met in 2020 at Hillside Park in South Abington Township to discuss the Susquehanna Land Company.

Since then members have continued to delve into the area’s history to get a better understanding of how the area developed.

In July, the Historical Society partnered with the Pharaohs Car Club of Scranton to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original Lackawanna Trail Highway System.

For more information, message the Historical Society on Facebook or call and leave a message at 570-575-8352.
