The Clarks Green United Methodist Church, a century’s old community of faith serving Clarks Green, surrounding communities and then world in Christian ministries, invites all to “come to church” this autumn and winter and get to know their new Worship Pastor, Marianne Meyer, their new Music Director, Jenny Johnson, and their small, warm, faith-filled congregation.

Marianne Meyer, new Worship Pastor at Clarks Green UMC, is a native of the Montrose-area. She has degrees in education and counseling. She worked for many years in community counseling before becoming a home education mom to her three now-grown sons, Louis (28), Caleb (26), and Jack (23). She and her husband Tom just celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary years of marriage this fall.

While raising our family, Marianne says, we were very active with South Gibson United Methodist Church, serving in church leadership in many ways. Listening to God’s call to pastoral ministry, in July 2019, she was hired to be the worship leader for weekly services at Waverly United Methodist Church. Marianne completed Licensed Local Pastoring School at Wesley Forest in April 2020. She has enjoyed walking alongside the wonderful Waverly folks and will continue to serve as their pastor while also leading worship with the wonderful Clarks Green UM Congregation.

She and her husband enjoy camping, hiking, birding, gardening, visiting with their sons, and relaxing with our two housecats Lola and Peef. Most of all, they love our Lord and seek Him in all things. Marianne is excited to share in worship with the community as God’s people gather to give God glory, be molded, and made to be just who He wants us to be, and share in fellowship with Him and with one another.

Jenny Johnson, the new Music Director at Clarks Green UMC, has been a military dependent for most of her life and began combining music and ministry at a very young age. She has been a church pianist since her teenage years and has held music contracts for military chapels around the world (literally)! She is currently the pianist at the Waverly UMC and a residential adjunct for the music department of Clarks Summit University, where she teaches piano and accompanies the concert choir.

Outside of music, Jenny is a counselor/therapist for Valhalla Veterans Services; but her greatest accomplishment and pride is being mom to Makaela (26), Tyler (24), Emily (22),

and Alex (16). She also recently expanded her family when she became a mother-in-law to Gillian (married Tyler) in September 2021 and Sam (married Emily) in May 2022.

When she is not working, Jenny enjoys travel (she’s visited 48 states and 27 countries), women’s ministry, and Sunday evening “hymn sings” via Facebook live, as well as spending time with her family at home just laughing and being together.

Jenny holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Music from Pensacola Christian College (1995) and a Masters in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in PTSD and Combat Stress from Liberty University (2015).
