DALTON – At the December Dalton Council meeting, Councilwoman Elizabeth Bonczar listed opportunities for council members to become members of the Dalton Community & Commerce Association. She announced that the Dalton Community & Commerce Association will have a meet-and-greet at Bailey’s Cafe on Jan. 19.
“You can come as a member and bring a guest,” she said.
Bonczar mentioned that it costs $25 for an individual membership and $50 for a business.
Also, Bonczar said that there is a historical marker along the railroad track, where the communication tower has been planned to be built. Along the line of history, she said that the Dalton Municipal Building has been deemed historic. She said that she will reach out to the Pennsylvania Historic Commission to confirm it and what it means to council members. She also said that secretary Laura Kinney is working on placing Bill Guest’s 19-page history of Dalton into Dalton’s website.
Also, Bonczar announced that Councilman Brendan S. Dwyer joined the planning commission.
In other business, solicitor Frank Bolock said that a commercial real estate appraiser is needed to look at Dalton’s ownership of the land underneath and around the post office. He said that the appraiser should give fair market value if council sells it or fair rental value if they rent it.
In his mayor’s report, Aaron Holzman mentioned that he signed a three-year contract with the Dalton Police Department as well as two-year contracts with West Abington Township and Nicholson. He said that he will have a resolution for those by the next council meeting.
Also, Holzman said that the downtown clock has been fixed by the person who installed it. He said that he has his own clock-repair business in Buffalo, N.Y. He said that he gave prices form a maintenance contract to install lights and a new lens for the clock.
Council voted to approve the maintenance contract.
Also, Holzman brought up the idea of a speed-enforcement sign for $3,280. He announced a second option of a speed sign with software recording data for $5,393.
Council voted to approve the latter.
