Summer camps provide far more than fun for children. Camps can help kids develop independence and life skills necessary for becoming successful adults. At camp, kids discover the joys of unplugging from technology. Studies show that kids who attend summer camp are happier and healthier than those who don’t.

To help make its three weeklong and three one-day summer camps available to all area children and teens, Indraloka Animal Sanctuary of Dalton is offering scholarships for families who need help with the cost of camp.

“No child should miss out on summer camp fun because of financial hardship,” says Indra Lahiri, PhD, founder of Indraloka.

Themed weeklong Earth Camps include Hopeful Heroes are Superheroes Week (June 19–23), People All Over the World Week (July 10–July 14) and Water Week (August 7–August 11). All camps include kid-friendly lunches and snacks, plenty of time outdoors with the gentle, loving rescued farm animals of Indraloka, games and other activities specific to the week’s theme for a cost of $150. Spaces are limited and fill up fast. Scholarships are available.

In August, Indraloka is once again teaming up with the Abington Community Library and the Wright Center for Patient & Community Engagement to offer three one-day camps:

• Monday, Aug. 14: “Healthy Me and Piggies Three” for students in grades 1-4

• Tuesday, Aug. 15: “Happy, Healthy, Hopeful Heroes” for students in grades 5-8

• Wednesday, Aug. 16: “Mammals, Medics and Manuscripts” for students in grades 9-12

Each day camp costs $30 and includes lunch and snacks. Scholarships are available and advance registration is required. All camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Indraloka’s core values of kindness, compassion, and connection to the animals, the earth and each other informing all activities. Indraloka Animal Sanctuary is conveniently located at 336 Oak Drive (just off Route 307) in Dalton.

Camp counselor and camp aid positions are also available for job seekers. Contact Sarah Thornton for job opportunities and camp scholarships at sarah@indraloka.org.
