Abington Heights teams are again positioned to be prominent in the championship pursuits across multiple District 2 sports this spring.
District 2 has set its postseason plans for spring sports, beginning with boys tennis team play in the first week of May.

BASEBALL
Championship games are set to return to PNC Field, the Moosic home of the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Abington Heights, Lackawanna Trail and Scranton Prep all ended April fourth in their respective district seeding ratings race, a position each would need to hold in order to host a quarterfinal game.
Quarterfinals and semifinals are played at the home of the higher seed.
Abington Heights is part of a District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional, which is scheduled for May 22 quarterfinals and May 24 semifinals. Class 5A will be decided in a single final May 28 at PNC Field.
Lackawanna Trail is in Class 2A, which is scheduled for May 23 and 25 before holding one of three finals scheduled for May 29.
Scranton Prep moved from Class 3A to 4A this season. Class 4A has May 24 quarterfinals, May 26 semifinals and one of the two May 30 finals at PNC Field.
BOYS LACROSSE
As of May 1, Scranton Prep was second and Abington Heights sixth in the 11-team race for eight District 2 Class 2A berths.
Quarterfinals are scheduled for May 16 with the semifinals May 19 and final May 23. All lacrosse playoff games, including the finals, will be played at the higher seed.
BOYS TENNIS
Abington Heights is the unbeaten, defending champion and top seed in Class 3A for the District 2 team tournament.
Quarterfinals are tentatively set for May 5 or 6 at the homes of the higher seeds, but with pairings already determined, teams have the option of playing earlier.
Abington Heights will open against Wilkes-Barre Area (2-9) because Wyoming Valley West (3-8) opted out of the postseason.
With a win, the Lackawanna League champion Comets will meet Crestwood (7-4) or Berwick (6-5) in the semifinals. Delaware Valley (10-3) or Valley View (11-3) are likely championship match opponents.
Scranton Prep is the fifth seed in Class 2A and will open at fourth-seeded Wyoming Seminary.
The semifinals and finals are scheduled for May 9 at Kirby Park. Class 3A semifinals are set for 11:30 a.m.; Class 2A at 1 p.m. and the finals follow.
Singles play begins May 11 at 9 a.m. with the first three rounds of Class 2A at Kirby Park and Class 3A at the nearby Wilkes University courts. The semifinals and finals are set for May 12, beginning at 1 p.m. at Kirby Park.
The doubles tournaments do not begin until after the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association team tournament May 16.
Early-round doubles play begins May 17 at 9 a.m. with Class 2A at Kirby Park and Class 3A at North Pocono. The last two rounds are scheduled for the next day, starting at 1 p.m.
Praneel Mallaiah from Abington Heights is the defending Class 3A singles champion. Sam Christman is back after teaming with Luke Morgan to win the Class 3A doubles title last season when Akhilesh Velaga from Scranton Prep was the Class 2A singles champion.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Abington Heights is the defending champion in District 2 Class 3A where it entered May with an 11-2 record and positioned to be the second seed behind unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference leader Delaware Valley.
The Comets are almost certain to have a bye in the May 17 quarterfinals and host a May 24 semifinal. The final will be on a neutral court June 1.
Lackawanna Trail is winless in an independent schedule and will miss the Class 2A playoffs.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Abington Heights, enjoying the best season in program history, entered May second with Scranton Prep third in the 11-team District 2 Class 2A playoff race.
They are likely to meet in the semifinals.
All playoff games, including the finals, will be played at the higher seed. The schedule calls for quarterfinals May 15, semifinals May 18 and the final May 22.
SOFTBALL
Abington Heights began May in fourth out of seven teams in the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional seeding race.
Lackawanna Trail was sixth of seven teams in District 2 Class 2A and Scranton Prep seventh of nine where eight will qualify in District 2 Class 4A.
Higher seeds host the quarterfinals and semifinals. Finals are on neutral sites, likely college fields within the confines of District 2 in most cases.
The Class 5A and 2A tournaments are set for May 22, 24 and 30. Class 4A is May 23, 25 and 31.
TRACK AND FIELD
For the second straight year, District 2 will conduct the championships as a combined two-day event with Class 3A and 2A at Scranton Memorial Stadium May 15-16.
The first day will consist largely of qualifying on the track, but will also contain half of the field events.
Postseason events at Scranton Memorial Stadium begin May 4 with the Jordan Relays.
The LTC’s Robert Spagna Championship Meet is scheduled for May 9.
