DALTON – During June’s Council meeting, planning commission member Heather Burke has been sworn in as council woman by Mayor Aaron Holzman.
She is filling the vacancy left by Brendan Dwyer, who is currently on the Lackawanna Trail School Board of Education.
In her secretary report, Laura Kinney said that Council received eight applications for the Hometown Heroes banners.
Also, Kinney said that Council received a letter of support for park improvements at Creekside Park. She also mentioned that the insurance policy is scheduled to review on Aug. 1, and a request was emailed to the Dalton Fire Company for an updated test and requirements of active status members. Kinney said that the site developers are working on Dalton’s website.
“In the meantime, we can do basic layouts for the pages in a Word document,” she said.
Kinney said that an electronic jumpstart for the Dalton Police Department vehicles has been ordered, and the finance committee approved the purchase of guns, accessories and ammo.
In his public works report, Council President Bill Brandt said that the finance committee will use liquid fuels funds to pay the remaining balances of a new Kobuta and a backhoe. Also, Brandt mentioned that the Department of Public Works is currently doing road patchwork and ditch cleaning.
In his finance report, Holzman announced that $1,200 was raised from the Dalton Dash. He gave $600 to the Dalton Community & Commerce Association, so they can lead the Dalton Dash next year. Also, Holzman said that the finance committee is in the process of hiring more part-time police officers.
In his grants report, Councilman Brian Malamud said that the committee submitted two grants for watershed restoration, amenities, and infrastructure for Streamside Park.
In other business, Council voted to
• approve the Hazard Mitigation Plan.
• execute and enter a 2-year school resource officer agreement with the Lackawanna Trail school district.
• transfer $10 from the general fund to FEMA.
• close the capital reserve account from NBT Bank and transfer the remaining balance to the Fidelity Bank account.
• open an account for the Hometown Heroes banner program.
• acquire a credit card with a $1,500 limit for minor purchases.
