CLARKS GREEN — During June’s Council meeting, Councilman Dave Rinaldi mentioned that he was considering obtaining an emergency generator for the borough building.

He said that it can be used for the nearby traffic light, which sometimes doesn’t work. He said that Council would otherwise use a small generator, which gets pulled out of the garage and plugged into an extension cord and into a control box. He established that this would be more time-consuming option.

“That, of course takes time,” he said. “The lights are out until someone gets down here and does it. Things like that, and I think we might want to consider eliminating that in the future and also making sure that the borough is always up and running in case of a power failure.”

Solicitor Al Weinschenk said that the generator can be funded by a grant in case the building ever needs to be used if the entire borough runs out of power.

“It’s a spot where we can have food, water or anything available,” he said. “There may be some money out there for a grant of something like that because we’re going to use it for disaster purposes.”

Council will obtain three proposals for a power generator and discuss it during July’s Council meeting.

In his police report, Clarks Summit police chief Chris Yarns said that he received a grant for a DUI patrol, which runs until Sept. 30.

In his financial report, Rinaldi announced the following account balances as of May 31, 2023: general fund checking, $793,587.90; capital fund balance, $127,731.84; sewer fund checking, $474,221.17; state funds, $216,506.02. He said that Council has approximately $300,000 in CD’s (certificates of deposit) with approximately $1.6 million in other accounts.

“Eventually, if we get our stormwater sewer project approved, we’ll have a 20% match on that,” Rinaldi said.

Council voted to approve the treasurer’s report and pay the bills.

In other business, Council voted to pay $7,750 to Murphy, Dougherty, $ Co. for the 2022 audit.
