ADULTING 101 CLASS
The Chinchilla United Methodist CHurch will host a Adulting 101 Lunch and Learn program starting at noon on Saturday, Aug. 5. The program will feature an “Introduction to Cooking” for anyone that is intimidated by the kitchen. Members of the community are welcome to come out and enjoy a free lunch of summer picnic favorites before the cooking lessons begin. Both lunch and the learning sessions are free of charge and are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Classes are limited to 25 students. Attendees should park in the lot behind the church and enter through the back of the building. CUMC asks that anyone interested in attending reserve their seat before August 3rd, by calling or texting Beth Kostelnik, Certified Lay Minister at Chinchilla UMC, at (484) 333-6602.

OTHELLO
The Dietrich Theater will show “Othello – National Theatre Live On Screen” on Aug. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. General admission is $14. Senior/member tickets are $12 and student/child tickets are $10.

CHICKEN AND BISCUIT DINNER
The Clifford United Methodist Church, Main Street, Clifford, will host a chicken and biscuit dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The take-out only dinner will feature chicken, biscuit, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, harvard beats and a dessert. The cost is $12.

THROWBACK THURSDAY CLASSIC MOVIE
The Lackawanna Historical Society’s “Throwback Thursday” classic movies will continue on Thursday, Aug. 17, with a screening of “Grease” at the Circle Drive-In. Classic cars from local car clubs will be on display. The movie will begin at dusk. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for children, with proceeds to benefit the Lackawanna Historical Society. 1-MILE Firecracker Race
The 31st annual Paul “Hook” O’Malley 1-Mile Firecracker Race Against Cancer will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 707 N. South Road, Scranton. Race registration will be from 8:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The race will start promptly at 10 a.m. Hook O’Malley was a local boxing trainer who succumbed to cancer on Sept. 25, 1992. GATHERING OF SINGERS/SONGWRITERS
The Dietrich Theater will host a gathering of singers and songwriters at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, sponsored by the Wyoming County commissioners. The Gathering of Singers & Songwriters will bring together some of the greatest folk talent this region has to offer, including Tom Flannery, Lorne Clarke and friends. OPEN MIC NIGHT
The Dietrich Theater will host a open mic night with Timothy and James Zieger at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25. Doors open for signups at 6:30 p.m. The evening will be hosted by Viola Henning. Admission is free for the night sponsored by the Dietrich Fundraising Committee.

FFREE STEAMTOWN ADMISSION
Cekebrate the 107th of the National Park Service with Steamtown National Historic Site on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to free admission, there will be no cost to ride Steamtown’s short train rides. Steamtown National Historic Site will commemorate the 107th birthday of the National Park Service with an opening prayer and performance from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania. This special event will include live music from artists including the Ole 97 Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute Band, crafts, activities, and feature community partners and National Park Service sites from the local area. Park programming will also be offered throughout the day, including our short train rides, tours of Mattes Street Tower, “Ring of Fire” demonstrations, handcar program with a park ranger, cab tours of the Canadian Pacific Railway No. 2317, demonstrations within the locomotive shop, and a Junior Ranger scavenger hunt activity.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE LVE!
“Wheel of Fortune LIVE!,” a theatrical experience, will be coming to the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple on November 14 at 7:30 PM. The live stage show, produced by Right Angle Entertainment in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and UTA, is the one-and-only way fans can experience America’s Game in person outside of Sony Pictures Studios. Tickets run from $46.75 to $90 with VIP Experience packages available for an additional fee.
