CLARKS SUMMIT — During October’s council meeting, Murli Rajan, who was looking to become a member of ARWA (Abington Regional Wastewater Authority), introduced himself to council.

He told council that he is currently the associate dean of the Kania School of Management at the University of Scranton. He said that he taught cases in finance investments. He mentioned that he has lived in Clarks Summit with his wife since 2002 and has three children who are now adults. He also provided his work history, mentioning that he serves as an expert witness in economic damage cases.

Borough Manager Virginia Kehoe said that Rajan once spent a year on council when a member stepped down. Rajan said that the ARWA position will give him a chance to give back to the community.

“I’m happy to help in any way that I can,” he said.

Council voted to appoint Rajan, who will be filling the position of Paul Murphy.

• Kehoe mentioned that Lackawanna County has COVID-specific CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) money ($45,000) that can used in the borough and must be spent at the end of the month. She said that the only applicant is the daycare center at Clarks Summit United Methodist Church.

• Kehoe announced that council received a rebate from the workers compensation insurance. After discussing whether to put the funds in the general fund checking account or capital reserves, council decided to table this decision until the council meeting in November.
