Are you ready for the fun at the Dietrich coming up for the holidays?

The gorgeous autumn colors of our landscape remind us to pause and be thankful. So much is coming up at our Wyoming County Cultural Center, so get ready to mark your calendars so you won’t miss them. From the Golden Days of Radio Players and 12 Movies of Christmas to “It’s a Wonderful Life” free showings await you. And it all starts out with the celebration of dance with Christmas with Stage Door Dance Studio on Friday, Dec. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., a free performance with select dancers.

But before all the holiday events begin, don’t miss these fall events to help feed your sense of wonder of our world of nature. Rick Koval, our NEPA naturalist and WNEP presenter of Pennsylvania Outdoor Life, returns on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. with Camouflage and Mimicry: What you See Isn’t What You See. This free presentation, sponsored by the Overlook Estate Foundation, shows us that there are so many ways animals use to avoid detection by us. For free tickets to reserve your seat, call us at 570-836-1022 x3. Free tickets will be available at the door as long as they last. Bring your family and friends.

On Sunday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. you are invited to hear Gary Ryman, author and scholar of American history, present Gifford Pinchot: The People’s Governor. Governor Pinchot was before his time in many ways, a forward-thinking leader, serving two terms from 1923 to 1927 and 1931 to 1935. He is known for his advocacy of environmental conservation. Come find out more about the man for whom so many parks and trails are named, including Pinchot State Park. Free tickets will be available at the door.

Now the holidays at the Dietrich start out with one of our longest lasting holiday events – Holiday Workshop, this year on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From cookie decorating, and holiday crafts to writing letters to Santa with our B.P.W friends, this is a way to experience all the simple ways to celebrate the season. Holiday Workshop is for everyone, free and sponsored by our good friends at Ace-Robbins, Inc.

Last night was the first rehearsal for Golden Days of Radio Players Performance coming up on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Next week at theabingtonjournal.com, I will tell you which radio plays from the 1940s and 50s they will be performing, complete with sound effects and costumes of the eras. This free performance is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tunkhannock and by Ed Battestin in memory of Pat Battistin. I never miss it.

We have a huge poster of the cast of the classic movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” in our Kintner Lobby for a good reason. Since we were able to reopen the Dietrich Theater in 2001, after it was closed for about 15 years, we have had free showings of this favorite holiday movie to thank our community for its help in bringing this beloved theater back to life. Ace Robbins, Inc. makes it possible to do so, including free soda and popcorn and cookies. It has multiple showings and we are able to accommodate everyone who wants to see it. You are invited to come and join the celebration.

Whether you come with family or friends or by yourself, we hope you always feel welcome at the Dietrich Theater. We work so hard to bring you a full range of blockbuster movies, independent and foreign films, classes for children and adults, and events that entertain and bring you new knowledge. We hope our offerings will light up your coming holidays. Your presence always lights up our world at the Dietrich.
