In 1985, Rotary International launched its Polio Plus initiative to help rid the world of polio. In 1988, it carried that commitment further with Global Polio Eradication aimed at immunizing children worldwide against the disease. To date, Rotary has contributed $2.6 billion to this cause that has provided medical staff, lab equipment, educational materials, vaccines and much more. It has also worked to fight hunger, poverty, illiteracy, and disease across the universe. The Lackawanna County commissioners recently honored the Rotary for these efforts.
