DALTON — When Gourmet Slice in Moosic closed, Charlie Cortez and Israel Perez were left with a decision to make.

The two friends could either find a new pizza place to work at or consider opening a place of their own.

When they found a vacant space on East Main Street in Dalton, the two decided to take the plunge and open a new pizzeria called Los Amigos.

“Since we always worked in the restaurant business, we decided we wanted our own one day,” said Charlie. “When we saw this place, we thought we should take a chance and start up our own pizza shop.”

Charlie and Israel are of both Mexican ancestry. Charlie is American-born and Israel is originally from Mexico. They name their business Los Amigos not only because they’re friends, but they also see their customers as friends.

Specialty pizzas include white broccoli, margherita, buffalo chicken, Sicilian, and Old Forge style. Their most popular pizzas are margherita and double crust ham and cheese. There are dinner specials such as chicken parmesan over spaghetti. They have Super Bowl platters, which consist of pizza, wings and hoagies. Hot and cold hoagies include cheese steak and Italian. Desserts include cannolis, rice pudding, blueberry cheesecake, and tiramisu.

Customers can either dine in or take to go.

“We enjoy what we do,” said Charlie. “We like seeing people come back and tell us that they enjoyed our pizza.”
