A program that trains Lackawanna and Luzerne counties residents of limited means for available skilled jobs is accepting applicants for the fall session.

Readiness in Skilled Employment, or RISE, offers full-time, nine-month training or retraining for low- or moderate-income adults (18 and older) in at least eight career tracks, including welding technology, industrial technology, medical assistant, computer support and computer security, building and property maintenance, diesel preventive maintenance, business management and human services.

RISE is a collaboration among United Neighborhood Centers, Johnson College, Luzerne County Community College, the multi-college think tank known as The Institute, the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.

The program offers enrollees support to help them accommodate a full-time training schedule, including for transportation, childcare, housing, utilities, and food.

Lackawanna and Luzerne counties residents interested in the program may apply at RISENEPA.org, or contact the program at RISE@UNCNEPA.org, or 570-346-6203.
