LA PLUME — The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory is providing a four-week summer schedule of sessions that began Wednesday, July 17, and continues each Wednesday and Friday evening from 9 to 11: p.m. through Aug. 16.

The sessions are provided free of charge as a service to the community. Advanced registration or reservations are not required.

Following a brief talk that changes weekly, participants will observe the Moon, planets, star clusters, and the Milky Way through telescopes. Groups larger than 20 people, such as school classes, scouts, and community organizations, may reserve a Monday night for private visits.

All sessions will be held outdoors or in the unheated Observatory buildings, so visitors should dress accordingly. Insect repellent is also recommended. There will be a short presentation before each session. Severe weather conditions will cancel events.

The Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory opened in 1973 and continues to offer visitors a unique, ideal rural setting with low artificial light interference for maximum nighttime viewing. The observatory is located at the intersection of Route 107 and Hack Road, approximately two miles west of Interstate 81, exit 202, approximately two miles east of Fleetville, and seven miles from Keystone main campus.

Contact Jo-Ann Kamichitis, Director of the Observatory, at 570-945-8402 or email observatory@keystone.edu for additional information about the summer sessions.
