The 9/11 Memorial Committee added another name of a Pearl Harbor veteran and survivor of the attack in 1941.

Maryian J. Wojciechowski and his late wife, Eliazabeth Rowlands Logan, resided in North Scranton after their 1944 marriage.

Wojciechowski enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and was assigned to the USS Nevada in Pearl Harbor. After the Nevada beached to keep the harbor open following the attack, Wojciechowski was promoted twice to his final rank of Petty Officer 2nd class and assigned to duty as a signalman on the USS Indianapolis.

On July 30, 1945, after completing its top secret mission to deliver the first atomic bomb, the Indianapolis was sunk by an enemy submarine. Wojciechowski was lost at sea in shark infested waters, and was one of over 900 sailors who perished.
