Summer has officially arrived, bringing with it a sense of adventure and relaxation. While some dread the heat, others embrace the arrival of balmy nights. Many of us are eager to dive into the cool waters and soak up the sunshine during the day.
A busy July is planned for Dalton Community Library. The Lackawanna County Library System’s summer reading theme this year is “Color Our World” and it began on June 30 and runs until Aug. 8. There are reading and activity challenges that all ages may participate in.
Our Kids’ Time programming will meet on Thursdays in July. This year’s programs will be a combination of art, music, nature and sign language. Our first presentation, Color Our World Patriotic, will be held July 3. Children will learn the sign language for the colors, patriotic signs and do a flag craft. On July 10, we will be discussing and learning the sign language for summer colors, activities and have a summer-themed craft.
Programs for July 17 (The Colorful World of Bugs and Insects brought to you by the “Bugman” Bridge) and July 24 (Once Upon an Orchestra) will be presented through Lackawanna County Library System’s partnership with NE Philharmonic Orchestra.
On July 31, an art-themed presentation for children will be offered. We will also have a Mini-masterpiece program for teens on July 31 directly following the Kids’ Time program.
In early August, we will be offering a Zine-Making Workshop for ages 6-12, presented by Camille at Everhart Museum.
Please call the library for exact times and details for the last 3 programs in July or for any questions you may have for future library activities during the rest of the summer: 570-563-2014.
Our Saturday Spotlight book discussion group is on hiatus for the summer. If you would like to get a jump on our reading selection for September, Stephen King’s “11/22/63” is the reading choice for our next meeting. We will reconvene on Sept. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
DCL’s Tuesday bridge group will meet all summer. We have recently added some additional players to our group and encourage new members to join us. The more the merrier!
Please keep us in mind if you are downsizing and have books to donate. Our next library book and bake sale is tentatively scheduled for the third week in October.
Happy July and happy Independence Day! May your day be filled with pride, joy and gratitude for our freedom. Take time for yourself, relax and enjoy the summer!
