IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS MONTH
National Immunization Awareness Month is observed throughout the entire month of August. It highlights the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. The goal is to encourage individuals to get caught up on recommended vaccinations and to learn more about the role of vaccines in preventing disease.
UPCOMING PROGRAMS
For children
• The Lackawanna County Library System presents Art with the Everhart: Join the Everhart Museum for a fun, hands-on zine-making workshop! Children will create their very own mini-book using drawing, storytelling and colorful imagination to explore what makes their world unique. Ages 6-12. Registration is required; register at your local library.
• SummerQuest Ending Event — Bubble Party: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8. Sponsored by the Abington Heights Civic League. A family event with endless bubbles, bubble play and music. Sign up at lclshome.org/event/bubble-party.
For teens
• Bridge the Gap Math — Lemonade Stand Summer Challenge: From 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, for incoming seventh and eighth graders. In this session, students become young entrepreneurs running their own lemonade stands. They’ll work in teams to budget, price and sell their lemonade for maximum profit. Along the way, they’ll face real-world math challenges, including supply shortages, customer demands and unexpected events. Sign up at lclshome.org/event/bridge-the-gap-math.
For Adults
• Invitation — Watercolor Workshop with Cara Colombo: From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6. Cost: $15 materials fee. Join Cara Colombo to create a beautiful watercolor invitation (your choice from the provided templates). This hands-on workshop will guide you through techniques to make one of these vibrant designs. • Monarch Butterfly Workshop: From 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13. Help support monarch butterfly population growth! Discover how to find monarch eggs, raise caterpillars, and create a successful habitat right at home. You’ll also learn how to safely release butterflies and witness the wonder of their migration.
