Actors Circle will present “Shorts for the Summer! IV” Aug. 6 through 9 at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Scranton. The show features eight shorts, with four different directors.
Jason Belack, Chloe Conway, Nanziba Khan, and Amanda Rudnick are each directing two shorts, for a total of eight shorts per show.
Nanziba Khan is directing “The Pickup” by Donald Loftus and “You Lovely Bell” by Meredith Perry. The former is a short about an encounter that does not end as originally anticipated, and features a three-person cast of April Holgate, Gregg Germano, and Kandis Hill. The latter is a short about finding beauty in every moment of life, even the end, and features a cast of Nikohl North-Mozda and Searia Calhoun.
Amanda Rudnick is directing “Ladies of the Night” by Laurie Allen and “Gown” by Robert Weibezahl. “Ladies of the Night” is about two old friends who have had enough of the nursing home in which they are living. It features Cathy Rist Strauch and Poshi Walker as the cast. “Gown” is about a mother and daughter’s visit to a bridal shop, and features Lorrie Loughney, Sydney Clark, and Rachel Bradshaw in the cast.
Chloe Conway is directing “Raghead” by Tom Coash and “Only One” by Dan Morra. “Raghead” has a cast of Liz Yatko and Matt Williams and takes a look at the prejudice in a post-9/11 New York City while a couple is on a blind date. “Only One” is about a grandmother’s rocking chair that harbors memories and is a source of marital conflict. The cast includes Danielle Dumire, Lara Zelinski, and Kilber Rubio.
Jason Belack will be directing “The Last Visitor” by David Schoenfeld and “The Thread Count in Hades” by Steven Kobar. Harry Powell and Emma Ross tell a story about a hospital chaplain who faces the end of his life in “The Last Visitor.” Brink Powell, Thomas Tomeo and Darren Moore tell the story of “The Thread Count in Hades”, a short about what happens when an extremely obnoxious couple is sent to hell.
Shows on Thursday through Saturday are at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s show is at 2 p.m.
