LA PLUME — The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory will begin its summer program on Wednesday, July 8. It will continue each Wednesday and Friday through Friday, July 31.

The astronomical programs will feature an illustrated lecture and weather-permitted observation through telescopes. The main objects planned for observation include the planets Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn; the Moon; and various star clusters, double stars, nebulae, and galaxies.

Presentations scheduled for the summer sessions include “Asteroids” by John Sabia on July 8 and 10; “The View in the Eyepiece” by Jo-Ann Kamichitis on July 15 and 17; “The Nocturnal Year: Constellations and Showpieces as the Seasons Change” by Jo-Ann Kamichitis on July 22 and 24; and “Galileo Galilei: His Telescopes and What He Saw” by Professor Tom Cupillari on July 29 and 31.

Open to the public, the free sessions will be held regardless of sky conditions and cancelled only by the threat of severe weather. For more information, contact Cupillari at 570-945-8402.

The Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory is located approximately two miles east of Fleetville on Route 107 and approximately 1.5 miles west on Route 107 from Interstate 81 exit 202.
