SCRANTON — Memories of days gone by will be rekindled when the Lackawanna County Commissioners flick the switch to light-up The Lackawanna County Government Center at The Globe on Friday, Dec. 2, with festivities beginning at 4:55 p.m.

The evening’s activities will kick-off with holiday selections performed by the choirs of Scranton and Valley View high schools. A program with brief remarks by local officials will follow.

The switch will be turned on at approximately 5:30 p.m. to illuminate The Globe.

The Scranton Chapter of UNICO National and LaFesta Italiana of Lackawanna County are donating refreshments for the ceremony and their members will serve hot chocolate and cookies.

Brooke Valley will offer horse-drawn carriage rides for $5. There will also be a visit from Santa Claus.

COLTS will pick-up and drop-off passengers, starting at noon, in the 100 block of Mifflin Avenue.

The decorations for the Wyoming Avenue side of the building include 11 trees, 16 wreaths and 180 feet of garland, all with lights and ornaments. The first floor window bays will be decorated for the season by ScrantonMade. Holiday designs will also adorn the windows on the Penn Avenue side of the building.

The annual Holiday Marketplace will be held at the Globe Dec. 2, 3 and 4. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event features 140 vendors.
