CLINTON TWP. — Lackawanna Trail junior Lili Martin has been accepted into the Rotary International Youth Exchange program for next school year. Martin will learn which country she will visit this January. She hopes to travel to Italy, France or Belgium.

Last summer, Martin participated in the Rotary’s short-term exchange program. She visited Arras, France for two weeks as a trial run for the long-term program. Martin most enjoyed learning from French people and interacting with them about topics ranging from differences in American food to politics and celebrities.

Martin is most interested in learning about new cultures and says her short-term exchange program was humbling when she thought about how big the world is and how much she would like to experience. She hopes the long-term program provides even more opportunities to explore new cultures and visit foreign countries.

Martin is an active member of Lackawanna Trail’s Interact Club and attributes her interest in the exchange program to meeting three visiting exchange students last school year during an Interact meeting. After attending a few informational meetings on Rotary’s exchange, she knew the program was right for her.

Martin is also a member of the school’s track and field team, the cross country team and plays clarinet in the band. In her free time, she enjoys skiing and volunteering within the community through her affiliation with National Honor Society.
