WAVERLY TWP. — Things are about to heat up at Waverly United Methodist Church, 101 Church St. which is about to host its first-ever Community Chili Cook-off on Friday, Oct. 13.

Members of the community are invited to enter their chili creations in the contest. Registration may be completed by contacting the church via its Facebook page, by email at waverlyumc@gmail.com or by calling Pastor Michelle Whitlock at 570-586-8166. All chili formulations must be ready for judging by 5:30 p.m. on the day of competition.

Each entry will be judged on presentation, aroma, texture, flavor, heat and overall impression. Based on total score, a champion chef will be presented with a trophy.

Once a victor is announced and the prize awarded, everyone is invited to enjoy all the contest chili recipes, along with cornbread, beverages and desserts.

There is no charge to enter the competition or to attend the community meal, but donations will be accepted.
