1967 — An Abington Heights graduate who was studying nursing at the time at Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, was named “Miss Methodist Student Nurse of Brooklyn, 1968.”
“Chpln. Keith Keidel and several nurse students from Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn visited Clarks Summit Methodist church,” read the Journal article.
“Miss Donna Hall was presented to the congregation by Chaplain Keidel. She was recently designated as ‘Miss Methodist Student Nurse of Brooklyn, 1968,’ is a member of the Clarks Summit Church and lives at 509 Sheridan Ave.
“She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hall and a senior at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.”
1977 — Abington Baptist Church, North Abington Road in Waverly Township, the oldest church in Lackawanna County at the time, celebrated the 175th anniversary of its founding.
1987 — The Fleetville Methodist Church was preparing to host the Benton Valley Gospel Singers in concert.
The singers were described in a Journal brief as “a local group with brilliant talents who blend their abilities creating a most entertaining concert. “
“The Reverend Tom Heafield-Mordant pastor, extends a warm welcome to everyone to attend this evening of music,” read the brief.
“Hostesses for the evening are Norma Barber, Beth Seymour, June Holly, and Joanne Rolles.”
