Commonwealth Health and two of its hospitals were recognized by The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE), Gift of Life Donor Program and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) in the 2017 HAP Donate Life Hospital Challenge. Commonwealth Health was designated a platinum level health care system while Wilkes-Barre General Hospital earned a platinum designation and Regional Hospital of Scranton earned a gold designation among individual hospitals. The challenge encourages Pennsylvania hospitals to increase organ donation awareness and designations within their hospital and community. Both hospitals launched the months-long effort with flag raising ceremonies at their respective facilities.
