The O’Malley Family, friends and former boxers held a short program and plaque dedication Oct. 26 at Weston Field in memory of the late boxing trainer Paul ‘Hook’ O’Malley, who succumbed to cancer on Sept. 25, 1992. O’Malley worked with the youth of the community for more than 45 years in the art of self-defense. The event was a tribute to his ongoing legacy, which includes the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Paul Hook O’Malley Division 4, and the Paul Hook O’Malley Race Against Cancer, which recently celebrated its 25th year. From left, are Matt O’Malley, James Connor, Korean War veteran; Patrick O’Malley, Vincent O’Malley, Gene Reed, boxing coach at the Irish Boxing Club; and former amateur and professional boxer and Patrick O’Malley, II.
