CLINTON TWP. — Seven students from Lackawanna Trail Junior Senior High School were selected for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District Band and Orchestra Festivals this fall.

Music students throughout the area participated in the audition process Nov. 19 at Wyoming Valley West High School. Students are required to prepare a solo, scales and technical exercises demonstrating their proficiency on their instrument. They then perform a blind audition for area directors and PMEA members who score them on rhythmic accuracy, note accuracy, and correct interpretation of musical phrases.

The students selected include Abby Dalton, flute; Rachel Saxton, clarinet; Elonnna Spencer, clarinet; Alaina Jones, bass clarinet (first chair); Kevin Thorne, alto saxophone; Danielle Petrilak, trumpet, and Madison Norman, violin.

Sophomores Rachel Saxton and Elonna Spencer were selected to represent Lackawanna Trail on the clarinet. This is their first year auditioning for the honors festival, which is open to students in grades 10-12.

This year’s District Band festival is hosted by the Riverside Area School district and will be held at Marywood University Jan. 11113. The guest conductor of the ensemble will be Dr. David Romines, Director of Bands at Marywood University. The concert is set for the evening of Saturday, Jan. 13 and is open to the public.

The District Orchestra festival will be held at Western Wayne High School and follows a very similar format to the District Band festival.
