1967 — South Abington fourth-grade student Robert Coffin was shown in a the front page photograph piling up bags of clothes the school had recently sent to Appalachia.
“The school council organized the clothe-in by bringing clothes and shoes from home, piling them in bags and having them sent to such states as Kentucky and Tennessee,” read the photo caption.
1977 — Students at the Abington Heights High School North Campus were preparing for their annual Christmas program and pageant.
Performing in the portrayal of the biblical Christmas story were Wendy Grill, as Mary; Gary Gwozdz, as Joseph; Scott Barton, narrator; Gretchen Eagen, an angel; Alan Thurston, Dennis Eberhardt and John Lewis, as shepherds; James Bremrer, Robert Baust and James Rowland, as the three kings; Thomas Philbin, as “the Boy,” and Laurinda Lee, as “the Girl.”
