1968 — Fishermen were finding favorable conditions on local bodies of water.

“Fish warden supervisor Clair Fleeger reports that Chapman Lake is producing trout, pickerel and perch on spoon, live bait, corn and grubs,” read the report.

“He says nice catches of trout in the 12 to 15-inch range are being taken constantly.

“At Newton Lake, pickerel and perch on live bait and grubs by tip-ups and jiggling, are plentiful.

“Lake Sheridan, near Factoryville, is good for perch, bluegills, pickerel and some walleye. The best time for walleye is at night, using live bait and grubs, Mr. Fleeger says.

“At Rocky Glen Lake, the same basic conditions exist. Supervisor Fleeger also reminds fishermen of the dangers of ice fishing at this time of year. A minimum of four inches is needed for safety, he warns.”

1978 — “After school” firefighters were featured in an article about the Clarks Green Volunteer Fire Company.

“They range in age from 14 to 18 and are mostly males but some are females,” it began. “They are area students, but they have one quality not common among their classmates – they are apprentice or junior firemen.

“The Apprentice fire co. concept is a new experience for the Clarks Green Fire Co., but fire company president Bob Reese said recently that he is very encouraged by the 6 new apprentice members of his department. Reese said that fire department officials are very interested in developing a program for youth who show an interest in community service.”
