Camera For A Cure (CFAC) was a sponsor of this year’s Splashin’ with Compassion. The event, held annually at Montage Mountain, benefits the Friends of Shannon McDonough nonprofit.
This fundraiser is personal for CFAC founder Timmy Walsh as McDonough was his cousin.
Shannon McDonough passed away in 2009 at the age of 23 from colon cancer. In the weeks and months following, her friends, known as “the 12 pack,” decided they wanted to honor her and keep her memory alive. Their small non-profit organization provides emotional and financial support to young adults battling cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The group holds two fundraisers each year, Splashin’ with Compassion and Shannon’s Shimmering Shamrocks, a St. Patrick’s Day Parade T-shirt sale. All funds raised are donated directly to young adults facing their own cancer diagnosis.
Camera For A Cure was created by Timmy Walsh at the age of 5, with his first show/sale at the age of 6. Understanding the severity and the lack of funding for lung cancer after his aunt was diagnosed with stage 3A, Walsh knew he had to do something to help. Walsh created CFAC and has been raising funds for nonprofit organizations and illness stricken families since 2008. Now, at the age of 15, he continues his quest to help others in his community.
Walsh is an Olyphant/Dalton resident, attends Scranton Preparatory School and is an Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 57 out of North Scranton.
