1968 — The Abington Heights High School faculty accepted a challenge from the Tunkhannock High School faculty to a basketball game in Tunkhannock, which was to be preceded by a game between the two schools’ cheerleaders. The Abington Heights gymnastics team, coached by David Faux, was to give a performance between the two games.

Proceeds from the event were to benefit the Peace Corps School, which the two schools were building, along with the Montrose and Lackawanna Trail high schools.

1978 — Abington area youngsters were gearing up for spring and dreaming of warmer days, as they completed their sign-ups for the Abington Little League.

1988 — Scott Leonhardt was the first-place winner of Abington Heights Middle School’s fourth -grade spelling bee. Ryan Cannon won second place and Ricky Baboff came in third.

‘Can spring be far behind?’ asked the original caption for this photo in 1978. ‘Believe it or not, sunny days and blue skies are in the offing and soon these eager youngsters will shed those heavy coats for baseball caps and shirts.
