CLARKS SUMMIT — The Gathering Place, 304 S. State St., is offering a diverse schedule of 42 classes for the spring 2018 semester. Class enrollment is on a first-come/first-served basis and there are often size restrictions. The registration deadline is a week before the class begins, but many classes fill early.

The schedule is as follows.
Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 14 through April 18. Cost $70.
This introductory class will be led by Phillip Sallavanti, a mindfulness teacher and practitioner with over 15 years of experience. It provides the fundamentals of mindfulness-based stress reduction, which has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and pain, and to improve well-being. Through meditation and awareness exercises, participants will explore this practical approach to living fully in the present moment.
Ordinary Lives Illuminated: 7 p.m. Wednesdays, March 14 through April 11. Cost $45.
Anne Stopper will discuss strategies and insights into the process of writing creative non-fiction from primary interviews. The class will include interviewing techniques and some technical tips for conducting and recording oral histories and turning them into written works of creative non-fiction.
Introduction Excel: 6 p.m. Thursdays, March 15 and 22. Cost $20.
This class, taught by Lisa Imbriaco, offers a basic understanding of spreadsheets, that students can build upon and apply.
Students will learn to understand the interface and environment, enter data, create formulas, format data and numbers, cell borders, create an Excel table, apply cell shading, sort data, filter data and chart data.
Students should have the latest version of Excel on their device before attending class.
Ukrainian Pysanky: 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15. Cost: $20.
Tammy Budnovitch will teach the basic steps to creating Ukrainian pysanky. Students will be given hands-on, step-by-step instructions to help them complete their own pysanky egg.
Overcoming your Fear of Apps: 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Cost $15.
Learn how to download apps from the App or Google Play stores safely and efficiently onto your device.
Lisa Imbriaco will share and introduce students to different type of apps for productivity, leisure, weather, travel and entertainment. Students may also share their favorite apps.

Ciao! Beginning Italian: 7 p.m. Tuesdays, March 20 through May 8. Cost $60.
Maria Caporale will teach a fun, interactive class exploring the basics of Italian language and culture.
Bring a notebook and pen.
Cannoli Making: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21. Cost $35.
An interactive lesson making cannoli with a tiramisu filling. Chef Sean Menth will guide the class in preparing (and eating) fresh cannoli.
Noontime lecture series – “Visions of Teaoga: Our Valley in the American Revolution” 12 p.m. Thursday, March 22. Cost $5.
Jim Remsen returns to offer another saga of the area’s history. He will detail the lives of settlers and Native American tribes as both groups try to preserve their own societies as the American Revolution brings terror and heartbreak to the Wyoming Valley.

Louisa May Alcott: More than Just Little Women: 7 p.m. Monday, March 26. Cost $15.
Jennifer Ochman, historical presenter, will offer a living history portrayal of Louisa May Alcott. Her focus is on Alcott’s early life as a nurse and struggling author. Parents and children, of middle school age, are encouraged to attend together.
Collage Painting: 6 p.m. Tuesdays, March 27 through April 10. Cost $60.
Earl Lehman will teach students how to create a striking collage using paint, paper and fabric. The supply list can be found online at GatheringPlaceCS.org.
Noontime Lecture series – Father & Son, Artists of NEPA: 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 27. Cost $5.
Mary Beth Voda returns, accompanied by Brian Keeler, a widely acclaimed Wyalusing artist.
The presentation will include works by Keeler, a painter of landscapes, portraits, figures, still life and genre scenes. He studied at York Academy of Arts, and his work is featured in American Artist magazine and numerous private, business, corporate and museum collections.
He credits his early interest in art to his father, William Keeler (1923-1980), whose paintings reflect rural life in his lifetime. His subjects have a rich sense of regionalism, offering a slice of Northeastern Pennsylvania life.

Noontime lecture series – Under the skirt – Vintage Fashions: 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 28. Cost $5.
Sarah Piccini will present a short history of the sometimes-perilous trends in women’s fashion from the Civil War to the 1920s. She will illustrate with vintage fashions from the collections of the Lackawanna County Historical Society.
