Lackawanna Historical Society’s Civil War Roundtable meetings continue

SCRANTON — The Lackawanna Historical Society hosts a monthly Civil War Roundtable, open to anyone with an interest in the Civil War era, 1861-1865. The Roundtable meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Catlin House, 232 Monroe Ave. Yearly membership dues are $20 for individuals and $25 for families.

Upcoming presenters and discussion topics for Roundtable meetings are as follows:

April 10: “A Narrative Tour of Appomattox,” presented by Bill Burnell.

May 8: “Civil War Ancestors,” at which participants are invited to share the story of their ancestors.

June 12: “Roundtable discussion: The Seven Days Campaign and Frayser’s Farm.”

July 10: “Roundtable discussion: Common Conduct of War”

Aug. 14: “Artifacts Tell Stories” discussion and exhibit, for which participants are encouraged to bring a Civil War-era artifact they have and share its story.

Sept. 11: “United States Colored Troops in the Civil War,” presented by William Fischer.

Oct. 9: “The Photography of Matthew Brady,” presented by Joe Pittelli.

Nov. 13: Book Discussion, “Longstreet: The Confederacy’s Most Controversial Soldier,” by Jeffry Wert.

December: Holiday party, date TBD.
