MOOSIC — Lackawanna County Judge Julia K. Munley spoke of social workers as leaders, advocates and champions at the annual Hospice of the Sacred Heart Social Work Breakfast March 16. Speaking before a group of social workers and community leaders, she spoke of her admiration for her sister, Gwen, who has dedicated her professional life to social work.

She also spoke of her pride of being a graduate of Marywood University, then Marywood College, and the rich tradition and reputation of Marywood’s School of Social Work.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf nominated Munley to a vacancy on the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County in June 2016. A month later, upon the unanimous recommendation of the Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committee, the full Pennsylvania Senate voted unanimously to confirm her nomination. She was elected to a full term by the voters of Lackawanna County on Nov. 7.

Munley resides in Clarks Summit with her husband, attorney Patrick Rogan. She is the daughter of Kathleen Munley, Ph.D., Professor Emerita, Marywood University; and James Munley, Senior Judge, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
