FACTORYVILLE — According to borough manager Mary Ellen Buckbee, members of the borough council passed an ordinance that amended the permit parking area in town during a monthly meeting March 14.
Additional street parking was added across the street from the old fire hall on College Avenue.
“The spaces in front of the fire hall were needed when large trucks needed to get out of the building, but all of those trucks have been moved to the new building in Clinton Township,” Buckbee said.
Buckbee added that Stuart Renda, Vice President for Finance and Administration at Keystone College, brought the college’s engineer to discuss a project that would require an extension of sewer lines. All of the college’s sewage is treated by the Factoryville Borough and Clinton Township Joint Municipal Sewer Authority.
The college intends to build a field house in La Plume Township and connect it to the public sewer system. In addition to the sewage additions, the college would like the borough to apply for a multimodel grant in the borough’s name for improvements near the college’s entrance.
“The college had included these improvements in previously awarded grants, but the bids were too high to include the items,” Buckbee said. “They want us to be the applicant because a new provision in 2018 allows municipalities, and only municipalities, to apply for these grants without the usual 30 percent match.
“In return for being the applicant, the college would like to add some items in the grant that will benefit Factoryville Borough.”
Sadie Rozenburg, the borough’s grant writer, is working with the college on finalizing a list of items that may include curbs, sidewalks, trails, and beautification of those areas.
Per Buckbee, members of the council also authorized a traffic signal maintenance agreement with Northeast Signal for the lights at Civic Club Way and Keystone College Drive.
